We had a few misconceptions about the Mustang trek. First of all we thought it would be cold. We headed out from Kagbeni with most of our cold weather gear on. At the first hill we started stripping off layers of clothing and by the middle of the day we were almost dying of heat stroke.
We knew that the trek followed a broad river valley and visited towns perched on plateaus above the river. What we didn't count on was having to go over mountain ranges to get to those various towns. This turned out to be a very physically grueling trek. We had a few ten hour days of constant steep up and down.
We knew the landscape was interesting and beautiful but as soon as we left Kagbeni we were floored by the immense stark landscape.
